BERKELEY -- Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man responsible for several thefts from local businesses in north Berkeley over the past month.

According to the Berkeley Police Department, the suspect walks into businesses and takes tip jars and other items from customers. Police declined to say what businesses the man specifically targeted.

On Sept. 13, the man allegedly stole a laptop from a business on the 1500 block of Shattuck Avenue. On Oct. 5 and then again the next day, the man allegedly stole tip jars from businesses on the 1800 block of Euclid Avenue.

The suspect is described as an African American male, between 35 and 40 years old, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and roughly 180 to 190 pounds. He has black hair pulled back into a ponytail with a receding hair line and he was last seen wearing dark-framed glasses.
