HAYWARD -- Speed and alcohol are suspected factors in an early Sunday crash that police say ended with a sports car slamming into a south Hayward home.
No one was home or injured during the crash, which took place just before 2:30 a.m. Officers were called to 797 West Tennyson Road near Harvey Road after someone reported a speeding car crashed into a home there, Sgt. Ken Forkus said.
When police and paramedics arrived they learned that a 2006 Dodge Charger Dodge was traveling northbound on Harvey Road at a high rate of speed when it ran a stop sign at West Tennyson Road then crashed into an unoccupied home.
A 23-year-old Newark man who was behind the wheel declined medical attention but was arrested on suspicion of DUI, Forkus said.
City workers responded to the scene to remove a tree that the Dodge hit before crashing into the home. Also, PG&E responded to shut off gas and electricity in the home because the car took out multiple walls in the home and exposed wires, Forkus said.
