DUBLIN -- Nordstrom Rack will open a store in Dublin, municipal officials and Nordstrom said Wednesday, giving the East Bay city a new destination retailer.

The 35,000-square-foot Nordstrom Rack is scheduled to open in the fall of 2015 in the Village at Dublin retail center, which being developed at the corner of Dublin Boulevard and Hacienda Drive.

Whole Foods will join Nordstrom Rack as primary anchors for the Village retail center. A HomeGoods has also agreed to move to the shopping center, said Linda Smith, Dublin city economic development director.

"We are very excited that Nordstrom Rack was able to put together a deal to move to this location," Smith said. "It will be a significant boost to our retail base. Nordstrom Rack and Whole Foods are destination shopping, which means people from other cities will be coming into our community."

Nordstrom Rack leased 35,000 square feet and Whole Foods rented 40,000 square feet, the retailers said. HomeGoods typically leases 20,000 to 30,000 square feet, Smith said.

"We've been thrilled with the customer response as we've continued to grow the Rack throughout the East Bay," said Geevy Thomas, Nordstrom Rack president.

Nordstrom Rack at present operates eight stores in the Bay Area, including two in San Jose, and one each in Colma, East Palo Alto, Fremont, Pleasant Hill, San Francisco and San Leandro.

"Whole Foods and Nordstrom Racks are both big draws and other tenants want to be near them," said Cece Cimino, a vice president with Cornish & Carey Newmark Knight Frank, a commercial realty brokerage.

And it appears that the newest stores for Nordstrom Rack represent a growth spurt for the retailer.

"Nordstrom Rack is seeking more sites in the Bay Area," Cimino said. "They are looking in every market where they are not located now."
