GILROY -- A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 101 when her car went through fencing and ended up on a frontage road around 6:33 p.m., according to officials.

The woman -- who has not been identified but is believed to be in her mid 20s -- was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner's Office.

The woman's Toyota Scion, which was headed north on the highway, went out of control for unknown reasons and ended up on Noname Uno Road, near St. Louise Hospital in Gilroy.

A cause for the crash remains under investigation, according to the California Highway Patrol.
