SAN JOSE -- A two-alarm fire on Monday morning swept through a vacant, Victorian-style home on South Third Street, according to a fire captain.
The blaze was reported at 3:20 a.m. by neighbors in the 700 block of South Third Street at Virginia Street, according to San Jose fire Capt. Rob Brown.
The first firefighters to arrive reported flames in the back of the home and in the attic area, Brown said.
A second-alarm was called in part to make sure the fire did not jump to an adjacent seven-unit apartment complex, Brown said. Residents of the apartment complex were evacuated for about 30 minutes until the fire no longer posed a threat to their building.
The fire was under control in about 90 minutes, Brown said.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
