SACRAMENTO -- Mexican Consulate officials in Sacramento are working to bring relatives from Guerrero, Mexico, to the bedside of the 9-year-old boy severely injured in a Lodi traffic collision that killed his pregnant mother, father and three siblings.

Carlos Gonzalez Gutierrez, the Mexican consul general, tells the Sacramento Bee (http://bit.ly/16zfegz ) that officials are expediting US travel permissions to allow two sets of grandparents from Mexico to visit Eden Miranda.

The newspaper says the third-grader from Lodi remained in critical condition Thursday.

The rest of his family died when a speeding SUV barreled into the family pickup on a residential street Tuesday. A total of six cars were involved and 12 people were injured.

Investigators are looking into reports that the driver of the SUV was speeding and on his cellphone moments earlier.
