OAKLAND -- A suspected gang member was arrested and two other men are being sought after a takeover robbery Thursday night at an Uptown nail salon, police said.
The man arrested was identified by police Friday as Martinez Bryant Jr., 29, of Berkeley.
Eight customers and employees were inside Mini Nails, 2502 Telegraph Ave., about 5:48 p.m. Thursday when three men armed with guns and a knife stormed in and ordered everyone to either get on the floor or go to a rear room.
The robbers went from person to person demanding valuables; at least four people lost iPhones, cash, wallets and other items, police said. The victims ranged in age from their 20s to 40s and all but one were women. No one was hurt.
While police were at the salon taking statements, one of the victims received a phone call that her debit/credit card was being used at a store at 8th and Adeline streets in West Oakland, Officer Doug Keely said.
Officers went there and arrested Bryant, who had discarded a gun and items taken during the robbery into some bushes, police said. At least one of the victims positively identified Bryant as one of the robbers but he has denied involvement, police said.
He was arrested on multiple counts of armed robbery. The two other suspects are being sought and police believe the trio might be responsible for other robberies and burglaries.
