Lou Reed was a veteran of the Bridge School Benefit.

The legendary rocker performed at the 11th annual Bridge concerts in 1997, on a bill that also included Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins and the Dave Matthews Band.

He died early Sunday, reportedly due to ailments related to a liver transplant. Later that day, stars would pay to tribute to their fallen friend on Day Two of the 27th annual Bridge School Benefit at Shoreline Amphitheatre at Mountain View.

Concert organizer Neil Young reportedly joined with Elvis Costello and My Morning Jacket to perform the Reed composition "Oh! Sweet Nuthin'" onstage.

The song hails from the 1970 album "Loaded" by the Velvet Underground, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame act that Reed led in the late '60s and early '70s. The song was not sung by Reed on the album, but rather by Doug Yule.
