Six in 10 Americans expect to take at least one vacation before January, a dramatic uptick over a year ago and an encouraging note for the travel industry in need of some good news in an uncertain economy.
The survey of 2,300 travelers by the marketing services company MMGY Global found 59 percent of adults plan to take at least one trip, compared with 53 percent at the same time last year. The recent finding was the best since 2009.
The survey, taken quarterly, also found:
"Although leisure travelers will continue to watch their spending and look for the best deals possible, these data suggest that the recovery experienced by the travel industry during the past 18 months will extend well into 2014," said Steve Cohen, an executive for MMGY Global.
