OAKLAND -- A search for a suspected robber that locked down a West Oakland elementary school Tuesday morning ended with the suspect's arrest, authorities said.

The 33-year-old suspect, whose name was not immediately released, was arrested by U.S. Marshals about 9:25 a.m. in the rear of a home in the 900 block of Brockhurst Street.

The man, a resident of Oakland, was wanted in connection with a Fremont robbery, authorities said.

Officers had information that he was staying in a home 3200 block of Market and as they were setting up, he got out the back of the house.

The search and resulting lockdown of Hoover Elementary School, 890 Brockhurst St., started about 8 a.m. when the suspect was seen in the 3300 block of Market Street.

A perimeter that included 33rd, 32nd and Market streets and San Pablo Avenue was established. Vehicle and pedestrian traffic was not allowed in the area until the suspect was arrested.

Police dogs were brought in to help with the search and medical personnel also stood by.
