OAKLAND -- A New Jersey native pleaded guilty Wednesday to distributing pornography involving a 15-year-old Oakland girl, according to the U.S. Attorney.

Alex Gonzalez, 21, of Wenonah, N.J., admitted to meeting the victim, a 15-year-old high school student, through the Internet. According to a statement from U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag, Gonzalez said he had instructed the victim to take nude photos of herself and to send them to him.

He also instructed her to engage in sexually explicit conduct while on Internet video chats, which Gonzalez secretly recorded. When the teenager stopped communicating with him, Gonzalez admitted that he created a false identity on an unidentified social media website and uploaded the victim's nude images with the intent of distributing those nude images to her classmates.

Gonzalez was charged with one count of distribution of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. He pleaded guilty to all counts. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 19 in Oakland.

The maximum penalty for distribution of child pornography is 40 years in prison with a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years and a fine of $250,000.
