SAN LEANDRO -- The body of an unidentified male washed up on the shore of the San Leandro Marina Friday morning, police said.

The body washed up about 7 a.m. and the person's cause of death was not immediately known, San Leandro police Lt. Mike Sobek said.

A passer-by dialed 911 and Alameda County firefighters responded and pulled the body out of the water, Sobek said.

The Alameda County Coroner's Bureau took custody of the body and will determine how the man died, Sobek said.

It was not immediately known how long the person had been dead but Sobek said his body was in state of decomposition.
