WALNUT CREEK -- One man was arrested, but another escaped after burglarizing a Walnut Creek home early Monday, police said.
The burglary happened on Rock Oak Court around 4 a.m., police said. A resident of the home called police to report that two men were breaking into the home and that they had left the home on foot, police said.
Officers arrived within minutes and found 28-year-old Major Earl Skinner III, of Oakland, near the court, police said. Police detained Skinner without incident, found evidence linking him with the burglary and arrested him on suspicion of attempted burglary and conspiracy to commit a crime.
The other man involved in the burglary got away, police said. They described him as being in his early 20s, between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build. The man was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark pants, police said.
Police said they are investigating whether the men committed other thefts or burglaries before they were caught and are urging other residents in the area to call Walnut Creek police at 925-943-5844 should they find any personal items missing or their cars broken into.
