OAKLAND -- Authorities have identified a man whose body washed up Friday at the San Leandro Marina as a missing San Francisco college student.

A spokesman for the Alameda County Coroner's office on Tuesday identified the body as 20-year-old Derrick Shao of San Francisco. Shao was last seen in the 900 block of Ingerson Avenue in San Francisco on the morning of Nov. 7 when he headed out to catch a Muni bus to go to City College of San Francisco, police said. He never arrived at school and his family reported him missing.

Shao's body was discovered by a passer-by about 7 a.m. Friday on the shore of the San Leandro Marina. A coroner's spokesman said a cause of death has not been determined pending the results of toxicology reports, which could take up to eight weeks. Police are continuing to investigate the case but foul play is not suspected.
