PACIFICA -- A motorcyclist killed in a head-on collision at Devil's Slide Monday evening was identified by the San Francisco Medical Examiner as 24-year-old Salvatore O'Brien, of San Francisco.

O'Brien was driving a 2003 Harley-Davidson in the southbound lane on Highway 1 when it struck a 2014 Subaru about 9 p.m., CHP officials said. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he died two hours later.

The man's cause of death remains unknown pending autopsy results, the medical examiner said.

It was not immediately known whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, which happened just south of the tunnel and north of Gray Whale Cove State Beach and shut down all lanes of the roadway for about two hours.
