CONCORD -- The Monument Crisis Center need hundreds more turkeys to help needy families this Thanksgiving.

The center has been quite busy over the last few days collecting and distributing donations from its food pantry to those in need. The goal this year has been to gather 1,200 turkeys; as of Tuesday, the center had given out more than 500 turkeys, and lines had formed before the giveaway at 2 p.m. both Monday and Tuesday.

The center is still accepting turkeys from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, and at 2 p.m. Wednesday will once again give out fixings for Thanksgiving meals.

Many volunteers, including students from St. Francis of Assisi School in Concord, collected about 100 turkeys for the center, and 30 volunteers from the Oakland Raiders Women's Association helped pass turkeys out Monday.

To donate go to the center at 2350 Monument Blvd., in Concord.
