SAN JOSE — The hats thrown to the ice at SAP Center after Brent Burns scored his third goal Friday were only the beginning of the celebration.

"The tank was amazing today, will never forget that!," Burns told his 75,865 Twitter followers shortly after the Sharks' 6-3 win over St. Louis. "Thanks for all the texts and hats. Even in the driveway at home!"

Burns then provided a link to a photo of the driveway at his San Jose home -- pic.twitter.com/OCK3TSafZe — showing the dozen or so hats that were waiting for him when he got home. "There was a big banner, too. I took the banner down, I was like 'Oh, God.' "

The paint was still wet on the 35-foot banner, Burns said, adding it read: "Sick! First NHL hat trick."

"Nice neighbors," Burns said, recognizing the work as that of "teen-agers, 20-somethings" who lived nearby.
