FREMONT -- A man hit and killed by a car while walking near the Dumbarton Bridge toll plaza late Friday was identified as a 21-year-old Santa Clara resident, authorities said Sunday.
Luis Geraldo Angulo was struck just east of the toll plaza on the East Bay side of the bridge, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At 10:37 p.m., CHP officers responded to a call of a pedestrian on Highway 84. Officers started traffic breaks in both directions of the bridge. However, Angulo was struck by a westbound Kia.
The driver of the vehicle stopped and remained on the scene of the collision. The CHP reported that alcohol was not a factor for the driver, whose name the CHP did not release.
Firefighters and Caltrans crews also responded to the collision.
CHP officials on Friday said it was not yet known why Angulo was walking in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Alameda County coroner's office identified Angulo on Sunday.
