OAKLAND -- A 24-year-old man was shot in the arm and pistol-whipped early Thursday in East Oakland by two robbers who drove off in his car, police said.

The man, believed to be from Oakland, was in stable condition at a hospital and is expected to recover. His name was not released.

The attack happened about 1:08 a.m. Thursday in the 1400 block of 18th Avenue, not far from San Antonio Park.

Police said the man was sitting in his parked gray 2004 BMW 530 when two masked robbers with guns came up to the vehicle and demanded the car.

One of the robbers shot the man in the arm while he was in the car and when the man got out of the vehicle he was pistol-whipped, police said.

The robbers then drove off in the car which has not been recovered.
