A motorcyclist was badly hurt by a hit-and-run driver who pulled out in front of him on Highway 17 south of Los Gatos around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The victim was traveling north on the roadway approaching Idylwild Road, traveling at normal speed, when a Ford vehicle pulled out from Idylwild directly in front of the motorcyclist, according to a CHP report.

The motorcyclist, a Santa Cruz resident, was thrown from his Honda about 20 feet, landing on the west edge of the road alongside the southbound lanes.

"After coming to a stop the driver of the Ford fled the scene on northbound SR-17 towards Los Gatos," reads the report. "Approximately 5 minutes later the Ford was located on the Bear Creek Road offramp, abandoned."

The driver of the Ford was described only as female. Her identity is not known.

The victim is not to believed to have been impaired by drugs or alcohol, but investigators do not know if the woman had intoxicants in her system.
