A man in his 20s was fatally shot on Tuesday night in Vallejo's second homicide of the day, police said.
Vallejo police responded to a report of gunshots heard near the 700 block of Tuolumne Street at about 9:30 p.m.
An officer arrived at the scene within a few minutes and located a man down with multiple gunshot wounds in a rear parking lot near the intersection of Tuolumne and Louisiana streets, according to police.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. His identification is being withheld pending notification of his family members, police said.
A number of people, who were on the street and in a nearby commercial building when police arrived, were detained in order to determine any potential connections with the shooting, officers said.
American Canyon police and the Solano County Sheriff's Office assisted Vallejo police in securing the scene and processing detained subjects, police said.
Vallejo police said this fatal shooting was Tuesday's second homicide and the fourth homicide in the last six days. Police said the homicide is the 24th to occur in 2013.
An earlier shooting outside a Vallejo supermarket on Tuesday afternoon drew a hostile crowd that took four law enforcement agencies to contain, Vallejo police said.
The shooting was reported at about 3:40 p.m. in front of King's Market at 1624 Fairgrounds Drive, police said.
The victim, also a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene and his name has not yet been released to the public.
The motives for Tuesday's homicides have not been determined.
