A Santa Cruz man was ejected from his motorcycle and suffered major injuries in a hit-and-run collision Tuesday afternoon on Highway 17 at Idylwild Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The other driver fled the scene and abandoned the car a few miles away on the Bear Creek Road offramp, according to the CHP.

The injured Santa Cruz man was traveling in the fast lane of northbound Highway 17 at about 1:35 p.m. when someone driving a 1994 Ford pulled directly in front of him from at Idylwild Road, according to the CHP. The Santa Cruz man was ejected from a 1996 Honda and thrown about 20 feet from the motorcycle.

The driver of the Ford fled on northbound 17 towards Los Gatos.

The Santa Cruz man was taken to Valley Medical Center with major injuries.
