SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- A woman who was struck by a car driven by a congresswoman's aide in Santa Barbara has died.

The Santa Maria Times (http://bit.ly/1gqwo9a ) says 27-year-old Mallory Rae Dies was removed from life support and died Wednesday, five days after she was struck by an allegedly drunken driver while crossing a street.

The driver, 32-year-old Raymond Morua, was a field representative to Democratic Rep. Lois Capps. He was fired Monday.

Authorities say Morua was leaving a party Friday when he hit Dies, who wasn't in a crosswalk but was crossing legally.

Morua, who has previous drunken-driving arrests, is charged with murder, vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.

He remains jailed. It wasn't clear whether he's hired an attorney, and a phone listing for him couldn't be found.
