The King City High School teacher arrested for allegedly beating a 15-year-old student has been put on paid leave, school district officials said Wednesday.

Michael Ciccarelli has been on leave since the school learned from the Monterey County Sheriff's Office of allegations during Thanksgiving week.

Daniel Moriao, state administrator of the South Monterey County Joint Union High School District, said the school will conduct its own investigation.

According to the sheriff's office, Ciccarelli entered the student's residence on Nov. 21 and knocked his bedroom door off its hinges. Ciccarelli allegedly punched and kicked the student in the face after finding a female relative in the room with him.
