RODEO -- A 25-year-old man died early Saturday after being shot multiple times while sitting in a car in a residential area, a Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office spokesman said.

Deputies responded to a 1 a.m. call reporting gunshots in the 1000 block of Viewpoint Boulevard, near Seascape Circle and Interstate 80, spokesman Jimmy Lee said.

There, deputies found the victim lying in the front yard of a home with several gunshot wounds, Lee said. Deputies performed CPR on the man, but he later died.

The victim's name is being withheld because his family has not yet been notified.

Police said he was sitting in a car with another person when three people they did not know approached them and opened fire. Lee would not reveal whether the second person in the car was struck by a bullet, saying only that, "the other person was not seriously injured."

Police did not provide a suspect description. No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information on the slaying can call the sheriff's office at 925-646-2441 or the anonymous hotline at 866-846-3592, or by sending an email to tips@so.cccounty.us.
