OAKLAND -- A man found dead inside an Oakland home after a fire was identified by the Alameda County Coroner's Office on Sunday as 75-year-old Richard Drobus.
Fire officials said Drobus was inside the home after crews put out a small kitchen fire in the 2300 block of Thackeray Drive. The fire broke out around 4:30 p.m., Battalion Chief Adrian Sheppard said.
Crews were alerted en route to the blaze that a man may have been trapped inside the bathroom, and that's where they found Drobus.
An autopsy will take place either Monday or Tuesday, at which point a cause of death likely will be determined. Sheppard said fire crews suspect the man took a cigarette into the bathroom with him but that the cause of Drobus' death has not been determined.
