OAKLAND -- A big rig and two other cars were involved in a car crash on Interstate 880 early Wednesday, causing a traffic backup that slowed the morning's commute.

Nobody was injured in the wreck, although a Mercedes was destroyed, CHP Officer Ron Simmons said. The crash happened at 5:41 a.m. in the northbound direction at the Oak Street offramp. Initially, three lanes were blocked, but all but the far left lane was opened by 6:15 a.m.

That lane was opened around 6:45 a.m. Traffic was backed up significantly but was expected to start flowing gradually, Simmons said.

The CHP did not issue a severe traffic alert.
