HAYWARD -- A one-alarm fire that broke out at an apartment on Wednesday afternoon displaced a family of four, a fire spokesman said.
No one was injured but the fire caused major damage to the home's attic and its ceiling.
Fire crews were dispatched at 1:25 p.m. to 22814 Grand Ave. for a report of a home on fire, said Lt. Don Nichelson.
Two of the four people who live in the apartment were home when the fire broke out but safely made it outside, Nichelson said.
Firefighters had the fire out within a short period of time, Nichelson said.
Investigators determined the fire started outside the home then traveled up to the eaves, igniting the attic, Nichelson said.
All four people who live in the home were displaced, Nichelson said.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation on Wednesday.
