SAN JOSE -- A Northern California company is recalling 740 pounds of its sausage products because they may be contaminated with dangerous toxins.
An FSIS inspector discovered during a safety assessment that the water level in the product may have been high enough to allow for the production of Staphylococcus aureus enterotoxin.
The United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said Thursday that Lee Bros. Foodservice Inc. of San Jose is recalling 16-ounce packages of Lee's Sandwiches brand pork sausages produced on Feb. 11 with the identifying code "042P" and 16-ounce packages of pork and chicken sausages produced on Feb. 12 with the code "043PC."
The sausages were sold at outlets in Arizona, California, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas as well as online.
There have been no reports of illnesses.
