OAKLAND -- A 34-year-old man was in surgery at Highland Hospital on Tuesday afternoon after he was stabbed in the stomach by another man following a fight in downtown Oakland, police said.

The name of the victim was not released, and his condition was not immediately available.

Police said the victim and another man were in the 2400 block of Telegraph Avenue shortly after noon Tuesday when they got into an argument. A nearby security guard broke up the fight, but the suspect returned on a bicycle a few minutes later and stabbed the other man, police said.

He rode away on the bike, but dumped it a few blocks away, police said.

A description of the suspect was not immediately available.
