FREMONT -- An Alameda County Fire Department vehicle on an emergency call and a car collided Thursday afternoon, sending both drivers to the hospital, police said.

The fire department SUV had its emergency lights and siren on when it collided with a Toyota Corolla just before 5 p.m. at Paseo Padre Parkway and Decoto Road, said police Sgt. Mark Dang. The male battalion chief who was driving the SUV and the female driver of the Toyota were treated for their injuries and released, he said. Both were driving alone.

The crash blocked the intersection for hours. It could be 10:30 p.m. or later before the intersection is reopened, Dang said.
