A 26-year-old man was fatally shot Friday morning while driving a car in West Oakland.

Aubert Gholston was shot about 11:15 a.m. inside the moving Chevrolet, which crashed into a light pole outside Prescott Elementary School, authorities said. The school, at 920 Campbell St., was not in session when the shooting occurred.

Police did not immediately have a motive for the shooting and no arrests have been made. It was not known if the man was shot by someone standing on the street or from another vehicle.

Streets surrounding the elementary school were blocked off while police conducted their investigation. The shooting marks the 87th homicide of the year in Oakland.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information about the shooting. Anyone with information can call investigators at 510-238-3821.
