MORGAN HILL -- Crews knocked down a blaze that that broke out around 7:30 p.m. Monday and caused significant damage to a cabinet shop near Monterey Road and East Dunne Avenue, fire officials said.

California Custom Cabinets at 16890 Church Street was closed when the fire started and nobody had to be rescued, said Cal Fire Battalion Chief Brandon Leitzke. Firefighters were summoned to the scene by a water flow alarm that indicated fire sprinklers had gone off, and saw smoke coming out of the 5,000-square-foot building but no flames.

He fire was knocked down shortly after 8 p.m., Leitzke said. No firefighters were injured.

Leitzke said it was not immediately obvious how the fire broke out, or how much of the structure was damaged.

"A cabinet shop has a lot of wood inside, so it can be deceiving how much of the actual building was involved," he said.
