GILROY -- A 55-year-old motorcyclist is in critical condition after a collision with another vehicle on Monterey Road on Monday afternoon, police said.

Police and fire rescue crews responded to the scene north of Pierce Street shortly before 4 p.m. and found the Gilroy man suffering injuries described as severe and life-threatening. He was taken by helicopter to a trauma center for treatment.

The driver of the passenger vehicle, a 22-year-old Gilroy woman, was not injured in the crash.

Police are investigating and did not have further information about factors that may have contributed to the collision.
