PACIFICA -- A 5-year-old boy was hospitalized with major injuries Friday after police say he darted into the roadway between parked cars.

Emergency crews responded about 12:30 p.m. to the 1100 block of Rositas Road, where callers reported a child had been hit by a car, Pacifica Police Capt. Daniel Steidle said. The boy was taken to the hospital with major injuries, though they are not considered to be life threatening.

Investigators later determined the child ran into the street between two parked vehicles, and that the speed of the oncoming car was not a factor in the crash, Steidle said. An investigation by the Pacifica Police Department CRASH team is ongoing.
