DUBLIN -- The public will have the chance to speak out about plans to convert the Interstate 580 eastbound carpool lane from Dublin to Livermore into a toll road similar to the express lane operating on the Sunol Grade.

Sponsored by Caltrans and the Alameda County Transportation Authority, the public meeting will be held from 5-7 p.m. Jan. 22 at the Dublin Unified School District board room, 7471 Larkdale Ave., Dublin.

If approved, solo drivers will be able to pay through FasTrak to use the high-occupancy toll lane while the road remains free for carpools, van pools, motorcycles, buses and eligible electric or other clean-air vehicles.

The proposed 12-mile express lane would start at the Hopyard and Dougherty roads overcrossing and end just east of the Greenville Road interchange.
