Winter is coming ... in April.

HBO on Thursday announced a premiere date for Season 4 of "Game of Thrones." The wildly popular fantasy epic returns at 9 p.m. on April 6.

In addition, fans can get a preview look at the "Thrones" season when HBO debuts the first Season 4 trailer for the series Sunday night before the premiere of the new crime drama, "True Detective."

In other HBO news from the Television Critics Association press tour, it was announced that "Boardwalk Empire" will end its run upon the completion on its fifth season this fall.

As for other premiere dates, the political comedy, "Veep," will kick off its third season at 10 p.m. April 6, followed by the new tech-nerd comedy, "Silicon Valley," from Mike Judge (10:30 p.m.).
