To keep the swine flu virus or even a nasty cold from derailing their quest for a sixth Super Bowl, 49ers players and personnel swear by a few tricks to stay healthy during the playoff run:

Hot showers: Before and after time in the therapeutic ice tubs.

Steer clear of snifflers: No offense, but a 10-yard buffer guarantees a first down.

Wash hands, repeat: Bottles of hand sanitizer are everywhere at the team's training facility -- from the locker room to the lunch room. A dispenser in the gym boldly whispers, "Healthy hands start here."

Monster-size doses of Vitamin C: "I main-line three of these for breakfast, lunch and dinner,'' fullback Will Tukuafu says of his trusty packets of Emergen-C.

Steam and lots of fluid: Extra time in the sauna and lots of Gatorade.

Flu shots: Docs brought the vaccinations from Stanford to the team's Santa Clara training facility last month.

"Stuff dear ol' mom taught": Phil Dawson, who spent a decade kicking in the cold of Cleveland, thinks back to mom's advice: good nutrition, plenty of fluids, adequate bed rest.

Fist bumps, no shakes: Sure, they're glad to see you. But the less contact, the better.
