There can't be a "Dexter" spin-off without Dexter.
So says Showtime entertainment chief David Nevins, who told reporters at the TV critics press tour on Thursday that any such project would have to include Michael C. Hall, the actor who played the Miami-based serial killer for eight seasons.
"We continue to talk about it," Nevins said. "If we were to do it, we have to have a very good reason to do it. It has to feel like it's a new show. I'm not interested in doing it if it's just a continuation. ... It would have to involve Michael."
"Dexter" ended its wildly successful run last September with a series finale that was widely criticized by the show's passionate fans.
