VACAVILLE -- Three children were hospitalized Sunday afternoon following an alleged hit-and-run crash in northern Vacaville that landed a San Jose man with multiple warrants out for his arrest behind bars, officials reported.
Wesley Murray, 31, was taken into custody by Yolo County sheriff's deputies around 6 p.m., after checking into a Dunnigan motel, according to a press release from Vacaville police Sgt. Rick Elm.
About three hours earlier, Murray is suspected of hitting three children, ages 9, 7 and 6, who were playing in Monticello Court, according to Elm.
Paramedics with the Vacaville Fire Department were called to the scene and rendered medical aid to the children, two of whom were taken by ambulance to an area trauma center. The third was flown to University of California, Davis, Medical Center in Sacramento for treatment.
As of Monday, all three were listed in stable condition, Elm reported.
Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a white Chevy pickup with Arizona license plates and said it sped from the scene.
Responding police officers conducted an extensive area check for the suspect, later identified as Murray, but were unable to locate him or the vehicle.
They were later informed when Murray checked into the motel.
He was arrested on the unrelated outstanding warrants and booked into Yolo County Jail, Elm said. Later, Murray reportedly acknowledged being the driver of the pickup that struck the children, police said.
The vehicle was located in Winters.
Elm said police are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone with information to contact Officer Andy Polik with the Vacaville Police Department at 449-5200.
