OAKLAND -- Jury deliberations began Tuesday at the murder trial for an Oakland pimp accused of killing a San Leandro woman in an East Oakland motel room two years ago.

Alameda County prosecutor Laura Passaglia asked jurors to convict Andre Moncrease, 25, of first-degree murder for the July 12, 2012, fatal shooting of 19-year-old prostitute Tianna Leui at the Starlite Motel. She said that Moncrease was angry over Leui challenging his authority as a pimp.

Defense attorney James Giller argued that the prosecution doesn't have the evidence to prove Moncrease was the shooter. He said that although Leui didn't want to work as Moncrease's prostitute anymore, he had no motivation to kill her.
