BELMONT -- A 47-year-old woman who went missing in a Belmont park Monday morning was found lying off a hiking trail after a police dog picked up her scent, authorities said.
Officers responded about 11 a.m. to a nearby home on Elder Drive home after a caller reported a woman had gone missing in Water Dog Lake Park, Belmont Police Capt. Pat Halleran said. The caller told officers that the woman was despondent and may have gotten lost in the 260-acre wooded area adjacent to the residence.
An officer and his K9 partner, Kilo, arrived at the home about 11:30 a.m. and used a piece of the woman's clothing to track her path from a nearby trailhead, Halleran said. Kilo followed her scent along several hiking trails and eventually found her lying in some shrubbery several hundred yards from the house.
While the woman did not appear to be physically hurt, Halleran said, she was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.
