SAN JOSE -- Authorities said Thursday that a 17-year-old boy was the person killed earlier this month by a hit-and-run driver while walking on an onramp to Interstate 680, and there are still no leads to the vehicle that hit him.

Garon Bolden, of San Jose, was identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office as the victim of a collision reported the night of Jan. 10.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Bolden was walking on the onramp from Jackson Avenue to southbound I-680 at 11:50 p.m. when he was hit by an unidentified vehicle, causing massive injuries. The vehicle did not stop and continued on its way. At some point later, the CHP said, another car coming from Jackson Avenue spotted him in the roadway but could not swerve around in time, and also hit him.

The driver of the second car, a 43-year-old San Jose man, pulled over immediately and called 911. Bolden was pronounced dead at the scene. The CHP said it was not clear what he was doing on the onramp; they found no vehicles in the area that might be associated with him.

Investigators continue to seek tips about the driver and vehicle that hit Bolden. Anyone with information for the CHP can contact Officer Dundon at 408-467-5400.
