Woody Allen's lawyer appears to be blaming Mia Farrow for sexual abuse allegations from the former couple's adopted daughter.

According to the Huffington Post, Elkan Abramowitz has responded with a statement to Dylan Farrow's open letter that ran in the New York Times on Saturday, in which she discussed Allen allegedly molesting her more than 20 years ago when she was 7 years old.

"It is tragic that after 20 years a story engineered by a vengeful lover resurfaces after it was fully vetted and rejected by independent authorities," Abramowitz wrote. "The one to blame for Dylan's distress is neither Dylan nor Woody Allen." According to Abramowitz, Allen will be personally responding "very soon," as he "has read the article and found it untrue and disgraceful."

Dylan Farrow's allegations first surfaced during Allen's 1993 custody battle with former partner Mia Farrow. Allen was never prosecuted for the accusations. The issue has come to light over the past few months, after Mia and son Ronan Farrow criticized Allen after he was honored with the Cecille B. Demille Lifetime Achievement Award at the Golden Globes on Jan. 12.
