OAKLAND -- A 19-year-old Oakland woman died and a man was hospitalized when an SUV rolled over Tuesday morning on Redwood Road in the Oakland hills, police said.

The solo-vehicle wreck happened about 8:54 a.m. at the intersection of Redwood and Campus Drive, near Carl B. Munck Elementary School, according to police.

The SUV was heading southbound on Redwood when the driver lost control, jumped the sidewalk, crashed into an embankment and rolled over, coming to rest on its roof in the roadway. It was not known why the driver, an Oakland man, lost control of the car.

The woman, a passenger in the SUV, was extricated from the vehicle by firefighters and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
