SAN JOSE -- A big rig snagged a traffic light and electrical wires early Wednesday, forcing the day-long closure of a key stretch of Stevens Creek Boulevard in front of the popular Westfield Valley Fair mall and the offramps from Interstate 880, authorities said.

Traffic may not be back to normal until late Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.

The rig was towing a portable building when around 6:25 a.m. it tangled with a traffic signal at Stevens Creek Boulevard and Monroe Street and pulled out electrical wiring, according to San Jose police, which is investigating the incident.

The ensuing repairs forced the closure of Stevens Creek Boulevard between Monroe Street and the I-880 off-ramps, which were also closed. Authorities expect the closures to last until 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The driver of the rig was not seriously injured.
