BELMONT -- A 47-year-old man was hospitalized with serious injuries Tuesday after he crashed his bike riding down a Belmont hill.

Officers responded about 10:45 a.m. and found the Belmont man down in the street in the 2900 block of Hallmark Drive, Capt. Pat Halleran said. Investigators said it appeared the man had lost control of his bicycle.

The man, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive. No cars were involved in the crash.

"This accident points out the importance of wearing proper protective equipment, especially a helmet, while riding a bicycle," Halleran said. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
