SAN LEANDRO -- Two former Oakland residents were arrested in Texas last week in connection with a shooting at Bayfair Mall a few days before Christmas, police said Tuesday.

Jacob Travenia, 25, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a 24-year-old man, who was found by police in the mall parking lot on the afternoon of Dec. 20, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police said it appears that the shooting followed a verbal dispute between the two men in a parking lot. The victim recovered from his injuries.

Detectives learned that Travenia have been living in San Antonio, Texas and worked with police there to secure an arrest warrant for Travenia for attempted murder.

Detectives determined Travenia was staying with a woman named Brandy Halsell, 20, also formerly of Oakland. Last Tuesday, San Antonio police located and arrested Travenia on suspicion of committing the shooting and Halsell on suspicion of harboring a wanted felon.

California authorities are seeking to have the pair extradited so that they can be formally arraigned.
