FREMONT -- A vehicle vandalism suspect caught on camera smashing out a car's windows outside a downtown gym last month is being sought by police.

The crime took place at 10:45 a.m. on Jan. 17 at the 24-Hour Fitness located on the 39300 block of Paseo Padre Parkway, Fremont police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said Wednesday.

The morning of the vandalism, police say a witness observed a man vandalizing a Toyota Corolla in the parking lot.

The man broke both the front and back driver side windows of the Corolla with a golf club, Bosques said, then leaned through the broken windows and rummaged through the victim's personal belongings.

A witness nearby used his cell phone to capture several photos of the man committing the crime, Bosques said. The man then got into a Ford SUV and drove away.

The suspect is described as a 40-year-old Asian male, wearing sunglasses, a dark-colored jacket and armed with a golf club.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call police at 510-790-6900. Anonymous tips can be left at www.fremontpolice.org/tip.
