RICHMOND -- A man attempting to rob a gas station store early Wednesday morning was abruptly stopped thanks to a quick-thinking patron, police said.

Around 1:30 a.m., Michael Corbin, 50, walked into the AM/PM located at 12890 San Pablo Ave. armed with a revolver, said Sgt. Nicole Abetkov. Corbin pointed the gun at the clerk, who grabbed Corbin's hand and tried to wrestle the revolver from his grasp.

Abetkov said another man inside the store heard the commotion and came running, body-slamming Corbin and knocking the gun from his hand.

The man then held Corbin down until police arrived.

Abetkov said that Corbin does have a criminal record, but added that it did not include similar robbery incidents.
